One man can be an island, apparently...

So where does all this leave us ?

As our Dave, beloved of the kingdom of Daily Mailers, returns from Brussels the rest of us are left wondering what happens next ?  The Tory right may be  showering him with (French) champagne, happy to see him as the antithesis of pre war PM Chamberlain, coming down the steps of the airplane with no sign of a fluttering piece of paper. For the Tory right, les enfants terribles from the Thatcher years, recent events have been sweet indeed.  They had doubts about their man Dave, believing him to be too clever by three quarters. But now, he’s one of them.

But what about us ?

Did he “play a blinder” ? Or are we down a blind alley ?

Rocky Mountain High

It may not even occur to hardened skiiers to visit the Alps during the summer, but the resort of Les Houches, just down the valley from Chamonix, offers so much - from swimming in lakes and yomping around some of Europe's finest landscape shots to biking and climbing. Those of you not so inclined to sweat on your holidays can always eat very well and hoover up some of Savoie's finest wines in some of Chamonix-Mont Blanc's excellent restaurants. Chalet Chavants may be just for you !
